We are the American Baptist Churches of Maine!
Organized 1804 as Maine Baptist Missionary Society
Reorganized 1915 as the United Baptist Convention of Maine
Name changed 1973 to the American Baptist Churches of Maine
The American Baptist Churches of Maine’s mission is “to affirm, support, and challenge congregations as they live out their mission… (Acts 1:8 NIV)” We are local congregations clustered within eleven associations. The associational principle is key to strengthening the mission of local churches as they partner with other local congregations. Each member congregation is autonomous and self-governing in the sense that their mission in its community conforms to the needs of that particular locale. However, we believe that when local churches work in collaborative partnerships, we can do more together than we can by ourselves. We encourage and participate with one another to spread the good news of Jesus Christ to every community in Maine and to the ends of the earth.
